Great Gable, Lake District England

Light catches Lingmell in the Lakeland Fells. Looking over to Kirk Fell, Great Gable and Pillar from Scafell Pike. Below are the Wasdale fells.

Antique cars rust away in New Zealand

Old English cars (Austin) rusting away on the road side in the Buller Gorge betweenn Westport and Reefton. The whole of the country is a paradise for car enthusiasts since the climate and lack of salt on the roads in winter mean cars stay road worthy far longer than elswhere.

Old Court House, Reefton.

Cheap petrol in New Zealand

Kiwis seem to think their petrol is rather too expensive. I feel they should travel a little. Typically petrol is 1/3rd the UK price.

Things to do in Reefton area

The Bearded Mining Company in Reefton is an amusing endeavour to amuse the tourists. A recreation of a traditional miners hut with opportunity to try panning for gold and watch a gold nugget being cast. You can even take a 'gold' nugget home with you for $5.

The amusing proprietors take a rather tongue in cheek approach to their venture. They quite clearly do it just for love and beer money which means they are more than happy to have a yarn and explain some of the finer details of mining in the Buller District. It's free too :) Contact the miners at longsleep@xtra.co.nz

New Zealand Axe Men

Any agriculture and produce show in New Zealand seems incomplete without a wood chopping competition. Competitors travel Australasia with their sport, they have perfected their art and are mighty impressive to watch as they cut through the logs like they were butter.
